Kindergarten 2026
Starting school is a big step for children and families. Our school runs orientation and transition activities to help your child feel ready for Kindergarten and to support you as parents and carers.
Read the Getting ready for primary school guide for detailed tips and checklists.
Before your child starts Kindergarten
There are many opportunities for you and your child to become involved before they start Kindergarten.
Parents and carers join information sessions to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication. If you need an interpreter, let us know.
Little Bluey Day
The first event on our Transition to School calendar is our Little Bluey Day, which will be held on Monday 30 March at 10am.
Come along to our short information session and learn about what our school has to offer your child.
Stay and be entertained by performances from our Creative Arts groups, while our current Year Five students and this year’s Kindergarten teachers, take your child for some fun games and activities.
Before you leave, don't forget to pick up your Little Bluey's gift bag.
Orientation Days
Orientation days are the second event on our Transition to School Calendar.
Parents and future Kindergarten students, are invited to attend Scone Public School’s Kindergarten Orientation Day.
This information session will give you everything you need to know about enrolling in our school, first days of Kindergarten and the opportunities that we offer to support your child in their learning journey.
At the end of the session parents will receive an information pack and some little gifts, to help ready your child for school.
Transition Days
Starting 'big school' is an exciting and significant transition for children. Helping your little one prepare can build their confidence for when the big day comes, as well as your confidence too.
Once you have completed the enrolment forms and supporting documentation, your child can attend one or all of our Transition Days. These days are like mini school days, and are an important step in helping your child feel safe and happy as they transition to 'big school'.
Communication
At Scone Public School, we use the School Bytes parent app to communicate with families.
School Bytes is our platform for payments, permission notes, attendance, academic reports, the school calendar and notifications.
Parents will receive all communication via email and/or the School Bytes app.

When your child starts Kindergarten
What to Expect
Learning and development
Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, health and physical activity, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.
Daily routines
Children learn routines such as morning arrival, snack and lunch breaks, lining up, using bubblers and moving safely around the school. Teachers guide children as they settle in, but practising at home helps.
Best Start program
The Best Start Assessment identifies student’s literacy and numeracy skills on entry to Kindergarten. It has been conducted in all NSW public schools since 2010. The assessment is conducted in line with existing school practices and builds upon teaching and learning programs that support students in the transition to school.
Kindergarten students will complete their Best Start Assessment during school hours.
Bus Travel
Students will be able to catch the bus once notes and our Bus Safety talk has been completed in Term 1 2026.
A note identifying what bus your child is catching will be emailed to you on your child's first day of school. This will need to be returned before your child can catch the bus.
Getting ready at home
You can help your child get ready by encouraging independence and routines. Try:
- packing and unpacking their school bag
- dressing themselves and practising hygiene
- following simple routines at home.
